A development policy and strategy specialist in private sector, human capital development and economic competitiveness. Holder of First Class Honors BSc in Actuarial Science (University of Lagos), MSc in Economics (University of Lagos), Pre-doctoral Certificate in Economics (Yale) and PhD in Economics (Brown). Currently Senior Fellow and Head of Research at Centre for Health Economics and Development, and independent consultant to private sector development institutions and programs aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Recently, a consultant at Solina Health Limited on a program of integrating HIV/AIDS services into private for-profit health sector.
Formerly, Director of Research at the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA), an economic policy think-tank focusing on public finance and financial management, economic development and structural transformation in Nigeria and Africa more broadly. Role included leadership of a research team, managing the knowledge development process and the knowledge-uptake process through engagement with policymakers, development partners, academic community, civil society, and other stakeholders. Prior to joining CSEA, he was Africa Research Fellow at the distinguished Brookings Institute in Washington DC where he was part of a team of Africans engaging policymakers in the US Congress and capitals of African countries on African development issues, including those related to the Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA), by means of knowledge generated through a consortium of six think-tanks in African countries. He participated actively in developing programs of research and dissemination plans in the collaborative research program.
Research and publications cover a broad spectrum of topics including healthcare delivery, agriculture, households, labor markets, governance and international trade, and have appeared as articles in peer reviewed academic journals, policy journals, occasional and working papers, and opinion pieces. He has been a speaker at mid-level to high-level policy dialogues and strategy sessions. He has also taught Economics and Econometrics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics and Demographic methods in his role as tutor, instructor, lecturer and assistant professor at university level in Nigeria, South Africa and the US.
